Our People

Thomas R. Maskey, Principal  

Mr. Maskey has dedicated 35 years to the development of retail shopping centers. Before forming PDG, he spent 17 years as Sr. VP of Retail Development with The Peterson Companies in Fairfax, VA. His expertise helped build Peterson’s reputation as the premier retail development company in the Mid-Atlantic region. He was responsible for over 8 million square feet of development in the Washington DC region, including landmark projects at Downtown Silver Spring, Washingtonian Center, Milestone Center, Fair Lakes Center, Frederick Crossing, Fairfax Corner, Virginia Gateway and National Harbor. Mr. Maskey also spent 9 years with The Simon Property Group, the largest retail REIT in the United States, where he developed shopping centers throughout the country. His real estate career began with the Jewel Companies, a major Midwest grocery store chain. He and family members also own and operate two retail chains in the Midwest. Mr. Maskey holds a BS and MBA from Eastern Illinois University. Tom is PDG’s retail specialist and is a recognized dean of the retail development and leasing industry, nationwide.

Peter Hackett, Principal

Mr. Hackett has over 27 years of construction, real estate, and business experience. He has managed design, procurement, and construction of building and land development projects totaling over $2 billion. Previously, he was Sr. VP of Design and Construction with Peterson Companies for 22 years and Gilbane Building Company for 4 years. His project experience includes oversight and direct project responsibility for the development and construction management of notable local projects including National Harbor, Milestone Center, Downtown Silver Spring, Washingtonian, and Fairfax Corner. Mr. Hackett received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and an MBA from George Washington University. He is a licensed contractor and real estate agent in Virginia, Chairman of Management Education for Associated Builders and Contractors of VA, and a member of Leadership Fairfax, Inc. Peter is PDG’s construction and contracting specialist. He is responsible for design and construction management, monitoring costs and schedules, as well as land sales.

Jeff T. Parana, Principal

Mr. Parana has over 25 years of design, construction and real estate development experience. Prior to forming PDG, he managed the development of large, mixed-use projects exceeding $2 billion in value with The Peterson Companies, where he was a Vice President. His project management experience includes award-winning projects at Washingtonian Center, Fairfax Corner and National Harbor, where he served as Project Executive for development. He was previously with TRW, Inc., Haas Architects, and E. K. Fox & Associates. Mr. Parana holds a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Johns Hopkins University and a BS in Architectural Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He is a licensed real estate agent in Virginia. Jeff is PDG’s design and planning specialist. His creative talents add the special elements including architectural features, public spaces, and programming of activities that help bring our projects ‘to life’.

Tony Mehl, Principal

Mr. Mehl has 21 years of construction, real estate, and geotechnical experience. Prior to forming PDG, Mr. Mehl served for 10 years as Senior Manager of Design and Construction with The Peterson Companies. His project experience includes direct responsibility for architecture, engineering and construction of roads, utilities and sitework; commercial office buildings; retail shopping centers; residential lot development; building demolition; and environmental remediation projects, at notable local real estate projects including Virginia Gateway, Virginia Oaks, and Greenhill Crossing, all in Gainesville, VA; and Fairfax Corner in Fairfax, VA. Mehl also has 10 years experience in geotechnical engineering. He is a graduate of Old Dominion University where he received a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology. Tony is PDG’s construction and land development specialist. His extensive experience planning major site development construction activities, balancing earthwork over many years and many phases, delivering roads and major utilities ‘just in time’, and dealing with soils and environmental problems is an asset to any project.

Faith Procario, Director of Operations and Property Management

Ms. Procario has over 21 years of retail real estate operations experience. Prior to working with PDG, Faith spent 14 years with The Peterson Companies as Director of Retail Property Management. Starting with an outsourced portfolio of 1.5 million square feet, she hired the staff, established policies, and built the organization to successfully bring the effort in-house. She and her team subsequently transitioned over 4 million square feet of retail space from development into the operations portfolio. She has extensive experience interpreting development documents with multiple and complicated associations and CAM pool structures. Faith also started the marketing department and instituted large-scale marketing programs on numerous properties. She was previously with Trammell Crow Company and The Rappaport Companies as a Lease Administrator, Property Manager, and as Senior Retail Property Manager. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.A in Economics. At PDG, Faith is the retail operations and marketing specialist.

Cathy Sanata, Director of Finance

Ms. Sanata has over 25 years of experience with extensive knowledge in Project Accounting and Finance. She began her career overseeing the finances of retail and office ventures for a small developer in Vienna, VA. She later worked with Homart Development, in partnership with the Lerner Companies, as a Project Accountant for the Tysons Galleria and Tysons II office ventures. She has assisted numerous small businesses with their Finance and Accounting needs. Ms. Sanata is a graduate of Shepherd University, with a B.A. in Accounting. At PDG she is responsible for all accounting activities including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, annual and monthly financial statements, and preparation of tax working papers.
